It might be a good time to stock up.

As fuel prices rise, food prices will too.

If you can make room in your home, it might be a good idea to stock up on non-perishable items like non-fat milk, cornbread, flour, rice, and oatmeal.

Non-fat milk is a perfect source of calcium, and is the only milk I use when cooking. If I need fat, I get it from bacon and sausage leavings, or margarine or butter, depending.

Learn to garden. If you live in a city, learn to garden in containers. If you have any windows that get more than 5 hours of sun in the day, pull up a table, and make it your garden. Even if you can only get a pound of carrots and the odd tomato, it will be worth it. If nothing else, you can start your children on the road to self-sufficiency.

If you don't already know your neighbors, it might be a good time to remedy that. Going in together on groceries can save you all a lot of money, and you're going to need it.
